Overview
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is Samsung’s rugged flagship, priced from $1,299 AUD, and the strongest running option for Android users who do not want an Apple Watch. It pairs a titanium, dive-rated build with Samsung’s deepest health and training feature set to date.
Design and Display
The titanium case is IP69K and 10 ATM rated and now EN13319-certified as a dive instrument, the first time a Galaxy Watch has carried that certification. Its 1.52-inch display reaches up to 5,000 nits, brighter than the original Ultra’s 3,000 nits and one of the brightest of any watch in this roundup, powered by a new Snapdragon Wear Elite platform for faster performance.
Running and Training Features
Trail running gets dedicated support with GPX route loading, turn-by-turn guidance, Climb Guidance for upcoming gradients, and a Water Intake Alarm for longer efforts. Automatic workout detection, personalised heart rate zones, a Fitness Index score and Daily Cardio Load round out the training picture, and Strava integration lets runners share routes and chase personal bests directly from the watch.
Health and Recovery
A daily Energy Score, built using Galaxy AI, weighs yesterday’s activity, sleep and heart signals to suggest whether to push hard or recover. Sleep coaching classifies users into one of eight sleep-animal types with a personalised improvement programme, and the watch adds FDA-cleared sleep apnea risk detection, blood pressure trend estimates, and a Heart Health Score based on lifestyle indicators.
Battery Life
An 800 mAh battery, Samsung’s largest yet in a Galaxy Watch, supports fast charging to 40 percent in around 30 minutes. Samsung does not publish a multi-day estimate as clearly as Garmin or Suunto, but the larger cell is a meaningful step up from the standard Galaxy Watch line, though still well short of dedicated running-watch battery life.
Price and Value
At $1,299 AUD, the Ultra2 matches the Polar Vantage V3 and sits below the Garmin fenix 8 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. For Android users specifically, it is the closest thing to an Ultra-class Apple Watch rival.
Verdict
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the best pick for Android-using runners who want a rugged, dive-rated watch with strong AI-driven health insights. iPhone users and those wanting the longest possible battery life should look elsewhere.
