Desk review: This Apple Watch SE 3 review is based on current official Apple Australia specifications and pricing, not hands-on testing. The exact configuration reviewed is the Apple Watch SE 3 GPS, 40-mm Midnight Aluminium Case with Midnight Sport Band, part MEH94X/A. Price and specifications were checked on 13 August 2026.

Apple’s entry model now combines an Always-On Retina display, the S10 chip, temperature sensing, sleep score, fast charging and familiar running metrics. Apple Australia lists this exact GPS configuration at A$399.

Apple Watch SE 3 price in Australia

The official Apple Australia listing showed A$399 for the 40-mm GPS model with Midnight aluminium case and Midnight Sport Band when checked on 13 August 2026. The product schema identified part MEH94X/A. Prices and availability can change.

Design, display and comfort

Apple specifies a 40 × 34 × 10.7 mm case, 26.3 g GPS-case weight and support for 130–200 mm wrists. The aluminium case is paired with an Always-On Retina OLED LTPO display at 324 × 394 pixels, with up to 1,000 nits brightness and Ion-X front glass.

The light case should suit runners who dislike bulky watches, but this is a desk assessment based on dimensions. We have not worn the watch or evaluated its band comfort, screen visibility or durability.

Running and workout tools

Apple lists customised workouts and workout views, heart-rate zones, Training Load, Race Route, Pacer, stride length, ground contact time, vertical oscillation and automatic track detection. The watch supports L1 GPS with GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS and BeiDou; it does not have the precision dual-frequency GPS used by Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Apple also includes multisport workouts and offline maps with route creation. We have not compared its GPS or heart-rate data with reference equipment, so this review makes no independent accuracy claim.

For kit to complement the watch, RunHQ offers gear reviews, training articles and the Australian running events calendar.

Health, safety and smart features

The SE 3 has Apple’s second-generation optical heart sensor and temperature sensor, plus high- and low-heart-rate notifications, irregular-rhythm notifications, sleep stages, sleep score and sleep-apnoea notifications where supported. It omits the ECG app, Blood Oxygen app and hypertension notifications listed for higher models.

Safety features include Emergency SOS, international emergency calling, Fall Detection and Crash Detection. Apple Pay, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, on-device Siri, media playback, Double Tap and wrist-flick gestures are included. Apple Watch SE 3 requires an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 26 or later.

Health features are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Battery life

Apple claims up to 18 hours of normal use or 32 hours in Low Power Mode. Fast charging is rated to reach up to 80% in about 45 minutes, while 15 minutes can provide up to eight hours of normal use. These are manufacturer claims; actual runtime varies with GPS workouts, display use, notifications, mobile signal and settings.

Pros and cons

  • Always-On Retina display and current S10 chip

  • A$399 official entry price

Cons

  • Up to 18 hours is modest beside dedicated running watches
  • No dual-frequency GPS

External review consensus

Equal-weight mean: 8.3/10 from three scored reviews. Each explicit displayed score was divided by its maximum and multiplied by 10, then the three normalised results were averaged: (9.0 + 8.0 + 7.0) ÷ 3 = 8.3, rounded to one decimal. Original pages were checked on 13 August 2026 (Sydney).

Publication Published score Normalised Editorial takeaway
TechRadar 4.5/5 9.0/10 Praised the always-on display and flagship-level S10 performance, while noting the older design and missing advanced health tools.
Tech Advisor 4/5 8.0/10 Found it a strong-value all-rounder with smooth core features, tempered by thick bezels and limited battery life.
PhoneArena 7.0/10 7.0/10 Liked the always-on display, modern gestures and iPhone integration, but criticised the ageing design and absent ECG and blood-oxygen tools.

This editorial consensus is separate from the Running Watches Australia score. No Amazon customer subsection is included because a direct Australian listing clearly matching MEH94X/A with both a live rating and review count could not be verified.

Verdict

The Apple Watch SE 3 is a compelling A$399 running smartwatch for iPhone owners who want light hardware, excellent everyday integration and useful training metrics. Its short claimed battery life, single-frequency GPS and missing advanced health sensors make dedicated running watches stronger for long events or data-heavy training, but the value and breadth of smart features are hard to ignore.
